Cyclotourism: 4 itinerary proposals to discover the area
There are many cycling enthusiasts who choose to set off to explore new places, breathing in the fresh air and keeping fit!
The Delta area is one of the most suitable places for a bike excursion, especially thanks to the flat terrain that allows you to move freely without getting too tired.
There are many hidden trails, accessible by bike, that pass through unique and picturesque landscapes. You can discover places that are hard to find elsewhere in Italy such as: the lagoon of Valli di Comacchio, the Bosco della Mesola, the pine forests, the network of canals that run towards the sea, ponds and small villages immersed in the reeds. These are unique landscapes where many different species of animals live.
The available routes are so many that it will be impossible to cover them all, which is why our advice is to visit one of the information offices present throughout the province of Ferrara. Here you can find clear and detailed handlebar maps, complete with a list of service facilities such as rentals, bike repairs, and refreshment points.
Among all the available routes, we have selected a few to recommend to you that are suitable for both the more experienced and for those who are beginners.
1. The first excursion we recommend is dedicated to the less experienced
A very interesting and fun pedal outing within the Bosco della Mesola Nature Reserve. The itinerary winds through the forest until it reaches the Park of the Duchesses. This itinerary, lasting 2 hours, will allow you to discover the charm of still unspoiled nature. It is a route suitable for both adults and children, where you can spot deer, water and land turtles and, with a bit of luck, also the deer. It is also possible to rent bicycles directly at the entrance of the “Boscone”.
2. The second route is also dedicated to those who are beginners
It includes an itinerary of about 7 km and reaches the old Salina di Comacchio, a testament to the ancient role of salt producer held by the town. Over 600 hectares of land, located near Lido degli Estensi, preserve the ancient facility built during the Napoleonic era, decommissioned in 1984. In this area, thanks to the absence of human activity, numerous species of birds nest, including one of the most important colonies of Italian pink flamingos.
3. The third itinerary is aimed at an audience with some experience
A route that involves a trip from the Comacchio Lidos to the Po Delta and back. It will be a ride of about 70 kilometers passing through the municipalities of Goro, Mesola, Codigoro. It is a route in direct contact with nature, crossing landscapes such as:
the Gran Bosco della Mesola
the Sacca di Goro
- symbolic places of art such as the Castello di Mesola and the Abbey of Pomposa
4. If you are an expert instead
The route for you is the Destra Po cycle path, which winds along the Emilian bank of the “Great River”. This route, in the Ferrara section, connects the village of Stellata directly to the Adriatic Sea. A route of 123 kilometers, immersed in the greenery of cultivated fields and accompanied by the sound of the river's current.
