Here are 8 "Instagrammable" spots in Comacchio!
Three bridges
Right in the center of Comacchio stands the most representative monument of the town. This architectural complex is very particular, as it is a bridge under which two different rivers converge that then join into one, continuing their journey towards the sea. È among the most popular locations for tourists and will surely give you very spectacular shots. For example, you could go to the foot of one of the staircases of the bridge and frame one of the three arches centrally to show the bifurcation of the canals. Try to take more photos, perhaps at different times of the day. At sunset, the reflections of the sunlight allow the water of the canals to reflect images like in a mirror!
Canals of the town
Due to the many canals that cross it, Comacchio is also known as “the little Venice.” These wind through the entire inhabited area and are decorated with many colorful houses that reflect on their waters. Try to go to the opposite bank of the river compared to the colorful houses, so you can frame them from a three-quarter view. Try to capture the image from above, so as to allow the houses to reflect almost completely on the surface of the water. On sunny days, these shine with color, and we can assure you that they will become the main subjects of some of the most evocative shots you can take!
Wood sculptures by Enrico Menegatti
On the beaches of Lido di Volano, the artist Enrico Menegatti creates unique sculptures using everything that the sea current brings ashore. In October 2016, the sculpture depicting a seal won the Riva1920 recognition of the Reuse award, dedicated to works made with recovered materials. They are truly unique sculptures depicting various subjects such as dinosaurs, deer, horses, dolphins, and even legendary figures! They can become the subjects of interesting photographic shots, as, framed from particular angles, they may seem to come to life. Try for example to shoot from below the two dolphin-shaped sculptures, it will seem that they are really jumping out of the water!
Port channel of Porto Garibaldi
At the division of Lido degli Estensi and Porto Garibaldi is the port channel. Along the river that naturally separates the two maritime centers dock the boats of the Comacchio fishermen, above which flocks of seagulls are usually hovering in search of food. A fascinating and truly lively spectacle! Here, in addition to very fresh fish, you can find a fantastic location for amazing street photography shots, in which you could for example frame a fisherman unloading boxes of fish, while above him and his boat, a flock of seagulls hovers. Apply a black and white filter and the effect will be incredible!
Flamingos in the valleys
Among the brackish waters of the Comacchio valleys nest numerous colonies of pink flamingos. During the long periods of the birds' stay, in the presence of an abundance of food, they reach really bright shades of pink! In an attempt to stir the ground to hunt for food, the flamingos rhythmically move their long legs, performing an elegant ballet. A breathtaking spectacle that will give you artistic inspiration for interesting photographic shots. We really like photos in which a flamingo is framed bending down with its beak in the water. Look for a shot that also captures the reflection of the bird, and you will create a truly interesting sense of continuity! Or why not, you could frame a pair of flamingos while they spread their wings in the sky! Get creative!
Delta of the Po
At the mouth of the largest river in Italy, we find a natural park that encompasses a unique biodiversity. Within it live numerous species of birds and mammals, among which we also find the dune deer! On the pieces of land divided by the branches of the river, the two lighthouses of Goro also stand. The oldest one has now become a naturalistic observatory, from which it is possible to climb to observe the park's panorama from above. From here you could take beautiful panoramic photos, or, staying at the foot of the lighthouse, find a point from which to frame the small port located behind the lighthouse, which will seem to emerge among many little white boats. There are not many photos of the Goro lighthouse, for this reason you could amaze your friends with beautiful photos of this unique subject.
Fishing huts for eel
Within one of the most important Italian lagoon complexes, the historical tools for eel fishing are enclosed. The Comacchio economy has historically been centered on this activity. There are many fishing huts that, still intact, rise above the brackish waters of the lagoon. We can assure you that at sunset these landscapes give splendid reflections of red hues, to be immortalized in unique shots, in which you could frame the fishing huts reflected on the water. You could play with this mirror effect, classic at sunset, to take photos with very interesting dark tones.
Batane and Batanari
Along the town's canals, it is common to see the “batane” moored. Just like gondolas for Venice, these small flat-bottomed boats are typical of Comacchio. They are used to transport tourists along the waterways and, during carnival periods, they are decorated with fun and colorful plaster structures, in place of the classic wheeled floats. They are maneuvered by the “batanari” who, using a long pole called paradello, push the batane through the canals. Frame one of the canals with some batane moored, perhaps waiting for the perfect moment when there are no passersby, to give a sense of calm and silence to the photo. You just need to apply a light filter to achieve an interesting contrast of colors between the pink tones of the Comacchio masonry and the green of the canals.
